Judo Western Australia is proud to announce that following the completion of the State Sporting Association Recognition, Triennial Categorisation, and Annual Organisation Performance Assessment, the organisation has successfully secured a positive recategorisation under the WA Government’s Industry Investment Program.
This achievement sees Judo WA move from Step 1 of Category E to Step 1 of Category D, recognising the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and broader judo community. The recategorisation will lead to increased investment from the WA Government into the growth and development of judo across Western Australia.
Alongside this, Judo WA has also been approved for funding through the Regional Servicing Grant Program for the 2025–26 period, which will provide further resources to support participation and development in regional areas.
Importantly, this recognition highlights Judo WA’s commitment to strengthening its governance and strategic approach, while also acknowledging the organisation’s dedication to delivering programs and initiatives that directly support our members and clubs. The increased government support will enable Judo WA to build greater capability and capacity to drive the sport forward—both in planning for the future and in the way we deliver opportunities—across metropolitan and regional Western Australia.
Judo WA Chair Melissa Dennehy welcomed the announcement, stating:
“This result is a direct reflection of the commitment of our staff, the tireless work of our volunteers, and the ongoing support of our judo community. With this increased investment, we are well placed to continue growing the sport across WA and ensuring that both metropolitan and regional judoka have more opportunities to participate, progress, and succeed.”
Judo WA CEO Jacob Read added:
“Being recategorised under the Industry Investment Program is a significant milestone for Judo WA. It reflects the progress we have made in developing the sport strategically and through our delivery to members, and it acknowledges the strength of our governance practices and community. With this increased support, we can enhance the organisation’s capability and capacity to deliver opportunities, strengthen clubs, and drive growth for judo across Western Australia.”
