Day 1 – Timeo and Maelie Tournier Take to the World Stage
Timeo Tournier (UWA Judo Club) competed in the Men’s Under 66kg division, opening against Chile’s Fabricio MEYER in the Round of 64. Despite a strong showing and nearly taking the match to full time, Timeo was caught in a strangle in the closing seconds and submitted, ending his run in the opening round.
Maelie Tournier (UWA Judo Club) took to the mat in the Women’s Under 52kg division. After a first-round bye, she faced Spain’s Monica MARTINEZ DE RITUERTO MORILLAS in the Round of 32. Maelie fought with determination but was ultimately submitted via armbar, concluding her day in the second round.
Day 2 – Ochi and Toyoshima Battle in the Men’s Divisions
Keishin Ochi (UWA Judo Club) competed in the Men’s Under 81kg division, meeting Estonia’s Saad DIKAJEV in the Round of 64. Keishin looked composed early but was countered with tani-otoshi, resulting in an ippon loss and elimination in the first round.
Kohsei Toyoshima (UWA Judo Club) contested the Men’s Under 73kg division. After a bye in the Round of 64, he faced Germany’s Arthur AKOPJAN in the Round of 32.
